Awesome experience!! Howard has the most accredited schools: Divinity, Law, Medicine, Dentistry, Business, Social Work, Engineering, Fine Arts, and more. Based in the District of Columbia, HU offers a mix of politics, entertainment, activism and more. This is the REAL "HU". Awesome professors who prepare you for the real world....

Missing Academic Giants

The problem with Howard in 2019 is that it doesn't have any real academic giants. The current faculty are mediocre. They don't research and publish academic books regularly. Faculty research and publishing is important to distinguishing the school. Today's Howard University doesn't have any real academic scholars worthy of admiration.

The Real HU

I graduated from Howard years ago. I also met my husband there. At that time, Howard was my first choice school. I have no regrets and have fond memories of the school. Whenever we visit the campus, it brings back sweet memories of our alma mater. I am now looking for schools for my kids and would send my kids to Howard in a heartbeat.

Great HBCU

The good: My experience at Howard has been a pleasant one these last 3 years and I'm still satisfied with my decision. Howard has given me an amazing HBCU/college experience so far. Howard offers you a lot of great opportunities and can really expand your network. You can learn some important life lessons at Howard and I feel like Howard will set you up to thrive in your field. The bad: I would give Howard a 5 stars but there needs to be some improvements. There needs to be more guaranteed scholarships and a more efficient line of communication with the financial aid office. There also needs to be improvements in updating the campus. The exterior of the buildings are very nice (IMO) but some buildings need updating on the inside. Overall, there is some good and bad. But I think the good outweighs the bad. As long as you are true to yourself about what you are looking for in a uni, Howard will be a great choice.

Best decision ever!

I was courted by universities across the country, but Howard got me...and I'm so glad they did! My education, the exposure I had to major corporations and civil opportunities, and the bonds built that will last a lifetime couldn't have been gained elsewhere. Howard prepares you not to live, but to thrive!

Pros Beat the Cons

Much of the work done in recent years (e.g. dorm improvements) has been done to improve the student living experience. Some of the staff have a perspective and skill set that can't be found elsewhere. As an alum, I'm glad to have made this choice. Visit if you can to gain your own opinion!
