East Carolina University User Reviews and Ratings

Amazing university. Truly.

By Mel, Class of 2018, From Raleigh, NC

I feel blessed to know about the gem that is East Carolina University. ECU is an amazing school with amazing student life and vast amounts of opportunity. No longer a party school, ECU is definitely and literally on its way to becoming America's next great public university.

Great Choice

By Pegged, From North Carolina

Beautiful growing campus, that still has a small feel. Friendly people with lots of clubs and organizations, with active networking and social events. Pirate nation is similar to the pirates of old, tight knit with people from a variety of backgrounds. I chose ECU for my program of study, over all other public universities in NC, and am glad I did. Overall, instructors are good. The opportunities here allow you to make yourself whatever you wish to be. Most people just don't seize their opportunities. Stay active in the pirate community.

Big School Feel, Little School Price

By Mike A. - Hydrogeology, From Georgia

After finishing a tour in the USMC, I attended ECU. I completed undergraduate degree(s) in Geology and Comprehensive Science Ed, then went onto complete an MS in Geology. I have always worked as a Geologist and have earned a healthy income.

Excellent Experience with Online Masters Program

By BC, 2017 graduate, From North Carolina

My experience with ECU was excellent! I took 1-2 graduate courses online each semester while I taught during the day. For elective courses outside of my area, professors were welcoming and encouraging. As with any college experience, you will get out what you put in.

Terrible school

By Fomer ECU Student,Class of 2021, From NC

Had to leave within first week due to bad roomate, obscene RA who made it clear they were not to be bothered in any way basically, pest problems, lock problems, and my major's dept. showing very little to no interest in me whatsoever. Not to mention within 2 days of moving in,there was an armed robbery in the area I was staying.Never felt safe--most of the students won't speak to you and the advisor was never attentive to my needs and hardly ever responded to e-mails.Heads up for Spanish Majors:I came in with an advanced level of Spanish as proven by the placement exam and still was stuck in a lower-level class--you cannot advance and will be doing basic exercises forever.I thought I was going to love it here but now I am definitely transferring to another university--one that actually shows interest in is students' safety and success. Overall:UNSAFE CAMPUS,APATHETIC PROFESSORS,UNFRIENDLY STUDENT BODY,OLD & RUN-DOWN DORMS W. MULTIPLE ISSUES. Go anywhere else but here, and I'm from Eastern NC!!!!

ECU IS A JOKE

By STERB, From NORTH CAROLINA

ECU is a joke, especially for their online programs. I refuse to pay $30 for an exam to schedule online, for 7 of them. One or two would be fine but not 7. Most def not military friendly either. IF YOU ARE LIKE ME THEN TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE. THEY DO NOT DESERVE TO BE REPRESENTED BY OUR MILITARY. AT ALL.

Pray first, study hard, and apply yourself...

By ECU & Alabama Alumni 15 & 17, From Sparks, Nevada

As with any university... What you put into it, is what you get out of it. In the state of North Carolina, ECU's reputation and academics rank behind Duke, UNC, Wake Forest, and NC Sate... If you're interested in becoming a physician assistant, registered nurse, educator, or industrial technologist... You will thrive here. The level of professor engagement with students is high depending upon the department. Since graduating from ECU with a bachelor of science in industrial technology specializing manufacturing systems, I've gone on to work for companies like Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Mestek Inc., and now Panasonic/Tesla-Gigafactory (all as a production supervisor). If anyone is considering pursing an advance degree elsewhere, ECU's reputation is note-worthy. I was able to get into the University of Arkansas and the University of Alabama... I ultimately settled on Alabama and graduated with my masters. Take care and blessed.

MONEY

By Alex, From NC

Not a very good school in my opinion. The campus is great and everything looks great until you have to deal with some departments. The accounting department I would say is the worst. They make it extremely difficult and are not very good at helping students in need. The tutoring center does not provide enough tutors so you have to learn everything yourself. Another thing that needs improvement is the summer classes. Summer classes are so unorganized and usually the professors first time teaching that class so they do not know what they are doing. Do not take accounting or summer classes here!!

Come for the fun, stay for the bad education

By Brad A, class of 2005, From New York (NY)

This place has everything you want if you are just looking for a good time for 4 years. If you're looking for a good education, look elsewhere. I understand that to a large degree, you get out what you put in. But honestly, if you were the type to put in in high school, you wouldn't be going here for college.

On the Rise

By Adam c/o 2018, From North Carolina

Excellent services, club opportunities, caring and invested instructors, and quality education. Beautiful & growing campus in a small urban area sharing the same growth. This is no longer the party school of its' reputation.
