Good school for premed students

It's really great having all of my professors know my name and be willing to help explain things out of class. The caf food is surprisingly good and the campus is gorgeous. Strong biochemistry/ premed track. I'm the second person in my family to come to Hendrix.

I wouldn't do it again.

I graduated from Hendrix quite a long time ago. If I could do it over again, I would not go to Hendrix. Here's why: 1. It's in Arkansas and, even worse, it's in Conway (aka Cornway), Arkansas. In addition to having lots of violent crime and really poor health care, the community has a reputation for disliking Hendrix students. 2. I had a few good professors, a few bad (at least one who was actually dishonest) and several who were just run of the mill. In general, I found them to be pretty unremarkable which is probably not what most students are looking for. 3. No one has heard of Hendrix College. Outside of Arkansas and perhaps West Tennessee I found that Hendrix has little name recognition. More importantly for you, HR professionals will likely not have heard of it. Save yourself a lot of trouble and explaining at those job interviews, pick a school that has decent name recognition. 4. The dorms weren't very accommodating. Mine was not unlike prison cells I've seen minus a toilet. 5. Hendrix has very few majors which might limit your career choices. Many people like Hendrix and receive a good education there. You might very well be one of those. However, you never know where you might end up, so put yourself in the most advantageous position possible by going to a school in a better location with better name recognition, faculty and facilities.

Unto the Whole Person

My four years at Hendrix gave me the opportunity to be challenged and supported in ways that were better than what I could have imagined. You are not just there to get an education, but to discover your identity as a whole person. For me, this meant, not just going to classes to fulfill my major in psychology, but searching for my vocation, my calling, alongside my peers, professors, and the religious life office. I felt encouraged as I went on this journey in school, not to have everything figured out, but to embrace the uncertainty that comes with discerning my vocation. While I spent much of my time doing activities offered by the Religious Life office, I was also active in the Volunteer Action Committee and with intramurals. Hendrix was a place where I felt like anything I dreamed of doing was a possibility, whether through Odyssey Projects or study abroad, whether academic or extracurricular. Conway is a great town to live in, with plenty of amenities including shopping and restaurants, and is located just up the interstate from Little Rock where there is always something going on. I felt entirely prepared for graduate school, and having been in the professional world for 3 years, I feel grateful for the education and support of Hendrix. Now, as I live here in Conway again, I am connected to the college as an alum and have gotten to know so many others across class years who love this place and their experienced here.

Four of the best years of my life

The four years I was a student at Hendrix were some of the best years of my life. I was challenged academically, guided in development of critical thinking skills, and mentored by some of the brightest, most caring faculty around. I have never for one moment regretted my decision to attend Hendrix. "Unto the whole person" is more than just a phrase on the school seal; it's a philosophy that has underpinned the student experience for decades.
