A Great Experience

By Out-of-State Student, c/o 2021, From Florida

Academically, I have loved my time at Baylor. I was able to breeze through high school and do very well in all my classes, but once I got to Baylor, I was truly challenged on a consistent basis for the first time in my academic career. That being said, the vast majority of my classes have had under 20 students and all of my professors have been extremely approachable, so getting help is easy and even enjoyable. In terms of dorms, many of them have been recently renovated, and some are rather old, but there are renovations planned for many of the old ones, especially the honors dorms. If you choose one of the halls that has been renovated, I'd say the dorms are above average. I'd say the food is decent. 2 of the dining halls (East Village and Memorial) are pretty good, while I tried to avoid Penland when I had a meal plan. Most people on campus seem rather happy when walking around and there's a good community feel. It's pretty easy to make friends, but, as with any college, you have to put forth some effort to put yourself out there. Also, the student body is more diverse than most would probably think. I'm not involved in Greek life, so I can't really speak to that. I can say that Greek life is very "take it or leave it" at Baylor. If you want to be involved, you'll have every opportunity to do so, but it's by no means a requirement to have a good social life.

Didn't love Baylor at first

By Class of 2022, From Austin, TX

I toured Baylor several months before attending and it felt like home; everyone was so nice and I could easily see myself thriving in a place like this. I immediately knew this was the college for me. Line Camp is something I probably would not do again, however I did meet two of my close friends there and it was a great place to get to know people. I was so excited to start my first semester at Baylor but had no idea what I was in for. I wanted to rush so that meant no partying (for girls only) all semester. That kind of sucked. But I thought I'd just focus on school. My major first semester was in the science field and it was SO AWFUL. The science staff for freshmen are harsh and ruthless. I had a horrible first semester and was planning on transferring because I didn't even get to make the gpa requirement for Greek life. Fortunately I decided to stay for a second semester and that quickly turned my thinking around. I switched to undecided (trying to get the gpa for the business school, which I did) and enjoyed all of my classes. I was able to go out to experience the party life which were a lot of kick back type parties but honestly the best because you're friends with everyone at them. Made several new friends and found my two bffs. All of my professors cared about me in my classes (there were about 14-20 ppl in each class) and I will continue to keep in touch with a few of them for several years. Baylor is now my favorite place and my true home. It was so hard for me to even leave the small little dorm room that I despised the first few weeks of school! (I lived in penland and it's the best one because it was renovated and the people in it are great except for the fourth floor...). Anyways even though there's not much to do in Waco and first semester sucked for me, I ended up loving this place and never want to leave!!!

Outstanding Faculty and community!

By Priscila A., From Texas

Baylor professors take a lot of pride in knowing their students personally. Most of my professors made it their goal to learn all of our names by the first day of class. They would have us over at their house for a meal and to share advice on life. This kind of experience shapes your time at Baylor, you feel rooted for and believed in to achieve your full potential. I was an International student at Baylor and I always felt welcomed and wanted. I learned so much not only about the American culture but about cultures all over the world! I wouldn't change my experience for anything!

Solid school

By Cal. Class of 2020, From Waco, TX

I went to Baylor for the education, and I am leaving with a degree, enhanced faith, huge community, and a lifelong love for Baylor University. The professors are outstanding, always going above and beyond. While Collins, the all girls dorm, wasn't the cleanest (no renovations since it was built a billion years ago) it housed my closest friends. The campus is breathtaking. Greek life is all I could hope for with its commitment to giving back to communities, sharing unique bonds of sister and brotherhood, uniting to celebrate Baylor traditions, intramural sports, and so much more. There are parties, but it's not a wild party scene. Truly couldn't have asked for a better college experience. I was privileged to go here, and blessed beyond belief.

Time well spent

By CS Class of 1993, From Houston, Texas

I thought my experience and education were worthwhile. I transferred in my sophomore year. Housing was suite style and I was able to secure my own room my second semester. I majored in elementary education. My training set my course for feeling successful in my job. The transfer weekend was a great way to bring us into the fold!

The tea on Baylor

By Jill, From Las Vegas

I went to Baylor for 1 yr and transferred -COST: I got a pretty good scholarship and Baylor was still 50k a year for me. Now this wouldn't be a problem with me if Baylor had really nice amenities. But to me, it doesn't. Baylor has the vibe of a state school, but the price is wayyy higher. -Academics: I can say that after my year at Baylor, I didn't learn anything. I learned a lot each year of high school. Baylor has extremely hard required classes for freshmen (i.e. Christian Scriptures). I've talked to people at other colleges, and in my opinion, Baylor's intro classes are way harder than they need to be. -PROFESSORS: In my opinion, the professors at Baylor have the attitude that they are doing you a favor by even being in your presence. I did not think the professors teaching abilities matched up to the 50k price tag. I had a professor who spoke broken English (precalc professor no less), a professor who ignored my disability accomidations for being late to class (not sure how that was even legal), etc. My friends there had similar experiences/attitudes. -FOOD: The dining hall food was not good. I've visited 18 colleges in my life, and have eaten at every one. Baylor's food is one of the worst (people call Penland "p-nasty"). Not only that, but the dining halls are only open at weird/inconvient hours, and close on the weekends. -SOCIAL LIFE: I think the over the top academics take a toll on the social life at Baylor. People don't smile when they walk around campus. At my dorm, there was hardly anyone in the common area. I hardly ever made friends in class or at dining halls, bc people get in and get out. It's an exhausting place to be so I understand why. *Also noticed many bookworm & quirky personality types. -GREEK LIFE: I've heard that you can't get in to a sorority if you don't have a 3.0. This was true for me- chronic illness my first semester = 2.91 gpa. I don't have enough characters to give you the details, but it is stuck up & v bad time in the school yr
