Professors are involved and truly care

By BN2018, From Chicago, IL

What truly sets Rice apart is the fact that it combines the resources and reputation of a national university with the benefits of a small, liberal arts college environment. Most of my courses were between 5 and 20 students. The vast majority of professors know and call on students by name. There is an environment of collaboration and mutual support, rather than competitiveness, the permeates the campus. I have always been a firm believer that the greatest determinate of personal development and future success (whether at home, in school, or at work) is the feeling that you are happy and you are cared for. I never once felt otherwise at Rice.

Unhappy place

By Ricky, From Texas

There are many things I could say about Rice, but I think this one point is the most important: Students at Rice are not happy. Thanks to this suffocating environment driven by grades and elitism, many students go through mental crises everyday. We have a Facebook page called "Places I've Cried" where only a fraction of students express their dissatisfaction towards their student life. How does Rice affect me? It almost made me forsake my religion. It still tears at my emotions every day. Rice sucks, and I regret coming here.

Rice vs Duke

By AL, From Europe

Went to Rice for BA and Duke for MA. I am sure many are comparing the two as I did. I am glad that I opted for Rice for BA. The campus is more welcoming for international students with a lot of fun activities. I did not see the significant divide between ethnic groups. Plus, Duke siphons $$$ from intl students in the MA programs and yet the program is so bad many people complain that they hardly learn any because many Asian students in the program sort of circulate past year stuff among themselves and the Profs ARE AWARE OF IT and do nothing! So for both academic and campus life, I highly recommend Rice. You will learn more from American students in an environment where most of your classmates are not just from one single Asian country. You can search all the recent fuss about diversity at Duke against Chinese students as well. Also, I bored to death in Durham. Houston was much more enriching and powered by a diverse group of people in the city.

Incredible 4 Years

By M, Class of 2014, From Houston, TX

Rice not only gave me a world class education but gave me countless opportunities to hone my leadership skills and meet peers through the vibrant student-led community. Rice prioritizes diversity among its student body and it really shows. As a Houstonian who grew up in a very homogeneous suburb, I gained a rich perspective from my four years of experiences with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. I cannot recommend this amazing school enough to others and am still highly involved as an alum.

Hidden Gem

By BrownU, From NY

Rice U is probably only top 20 school, no one knows about. It's a great undergrad institution and a very close knit community. Their generous financial aid, residential college system and network of dinning halls are two reason student body ranks as happiest one in whole nation. They really need to put some of their huge endowment into marketing.

Small school. Huge impact.

By Trotskii, Class of 2008, From Houston, Texas

Rice is a quality institution in every way. From the quality and rigor of the academic programs to the quality of life of the students to the opportunities for alumni once they graduate. All this is wrapped up in one of the most beautiful campuses in the country.
