I don't like it

I am a current student. The social scene is terrible if you're not rich. The competitiveness is toxic and does not promote community. Getting into the clubs you want to be in is difficult. In terms of getting a job, it's good. Some of the Wharton classes are good too. Despite those last positives if I could turn back time I would of went somewhere else, maybe internationally.

A world class institution of higher learning with excellent faculty, students, and staff to say the least. Amazing all around

I attended Penn from 1978-1982 in the Wharton school of business. I found it to very challenging yet had the best professors and yet still enjoyed the total college experience! My daughter is attending now and we feel very fortunate. She loves it also and the name has gotten her all the summer internships she has applied for! Highly recommend Penn!

Recently accepted into a masters program at UPenn. During the course of admission I was told two different ways to approach the coursework by the same professor in a two week time span. The professor seemed to have not noticed that he interviewed me twice, each time offering contradictory advice. From my impression with the professors I encountered, it seems that there was not a heavy emphasis on building personal relationships with prospective or admitted student. Toured the school after being accepted trying to gauge the culture of the University, seemed to lack an sense of unity, very professorial school which could be a pro or con depending on how you take it. Wharton is king, everything else is secondary. Area surrounding the University seemed sketchy at night. Dining hall was decent but nothing special. Ultimately chose to attend another Ivy-League institution after being admitted by Upenn.

Best for undergraduates

Penn is incredibly strong in all undergraduate areas, not just Wharton. The engineering school, especially, is top notch among the Ivy League and any other school in the country, particularly in electrical, chemical, biomolecular, and biomedical engineering. The cure for cancer is going to come out of the University of Pennsylvania at some point - that's not hyperbole. The interdisciplinary commitment and overall educational philosophy of Penn and its faculty WILL result in the ultimate breakthroughs of our time, whether it's in energy, medicine, law, or political theory. Penn has it all.

Plenty to do, but not overwhelming

The campus itself is grand and beautiful. There is always something going on, whether it's a fraternity party, drone/electric car racing, "study" sessions at 3am with Insomnia Cookies, etc. The diversity here is unparalleled and always celebrated. Although the interests of students fall within an infinite range, one thing is certain: the party-goers, the athletes, and of course, the computer science geniuses, all work hard and play hard. Students truly enjoy what they are learning, and they are looking to experience everything the city has to offer. Good food is unlimited and everywhere. Security patrols every street corner, and dorms are very nice (although some freshman may need to tough it out in the quad, which is famous for its "freshman experience"). The community is supportive and focuses on promoting student physical and mental health (hence the free gym/yoga sessions and meditation on Franklin Field). I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

I have two children who graduated from UPenn

Awesome school. My kids felt they were rubbing shoulders with the best and the brightest at UPenn. They made lifetime quality friends and spouses there and I'm so glad for their experience. Very challenging academics as the competition is fierce. I was struck by the high level of dialectic thinking that goes on among the students. UPenn is expensive but it is highly regarded by employers in the same tier as Harvard, Princeton, Yale.
