Teaching students how to think.
By McCrae, From Loudoun County, VA
St. Johns may be a well kept secret even though it is the 3rd oldest college in the US. Learning a classical liberal art curriculum teaches student how to think. The push towards STEM curriculum in HS (while important) is lacking in critical thinking and the ability to debate and discuss important subjects. Learning from the great books which formed western civilization gives students a well rounded foundation which will serve well in any career path they choose. Having the ability to write your ideas clearly is severely lacking in today's workplace. Humanities is just as important as STEM for our young adults to understand and improve upon this world we live in. I have seen such a difference in my son who is entering his Senior year at St. Johns. As an administrator of a private school in VA, who's foundation was started upon the Great Books program, I have seen so many kids benefit from this type of education. Mostly I hear "This school has changed my life" Well done St. Johns!
