An Excellent University

Exceptional University

I truly enjoyed my time at the University of Pittsburgh. The professors and instructors seemed to care and made themselves available for students. Pitt is location in the Oakland neighborhood afforded me to experience the university along with all the other cultural institutions on or around its campus. Pitt certainly prepared me for real world experiences, and I have reaped the benefits of attending such a great institution.

As a 1979 graduate of the U of Pittsburgh, I have retained my affiliation with the universitiy through volunteer participation with the School of Public Health committees and the University alumni association. Pitt is an excellent institution located in a wonderful city with a great tradition of medical and educational institutions. I can't thank Pitt enough for everything it has given to me.

Very good school academically in great urban setting

UPitt is the school I really fell in love with. Starting from academics, Pitt gave me a solid education that made it possible for me to enter with seamless transition a Masters program in one of the best European Universities. Some teachers are tough at Pitt but it will only be for your good. You will surely appreciate it, if not during your studies, afterwards. Pitt with its gorgeous campus, with plenty of activities at the University and in the city (I call Pittsburgh a mini NYC), with numerous restaurants, markets, parks, bustling life on weekends, made those four years really memorable. Housing options from the University may be a little limited (many are new or nicely renovated – my favorite – Ruskin Hall) but there are plenty of private rentals available around. I always felt safe in Oakland, even walking after midnight. Public transportation in Pittsburgh is good and with a student card it is free. Food in main cafeteria is not the best, but there are so many choices around the University that everybody will find something for himself/herself. I really recommend University of Pittsburgh. For such a great experience the tuition is still reasonable!

Best Decision I Could've Made

Even though I'm only two months into being at Pitt, this has been the best decision and experience of my life. As an in-state student with eyes on schools like Emory and Johns Hopkins, Pitt was never in the picture for me. However, I decided to commit to Pitt because of the price and wide variety of opportunities that the university has. Pitt tends to have a negative connotation about it for being a safety school, but in fact, it is becoming rapidly more difficult to get into. With some of the most rigorous science, engineering, and nursing programs in the country, it is fairly difficult to understand why Pitt has never been seen as a top-ranked school with a reputation on par with Michigan and Virginia. While the acceptance rate is higher than those schools for the time-being, this is likely to change in the future as it becomes a more highly coveted university in the future. Additionally, Pitt has incredible opportunities in research (one of the nation's top research universities), social life, and involvement. Furthermore, the university is in the process of a major rebeautification and renovation to increase the physical appeal of the school, even though we already have Cathy (Cathedral of Learning), which has been named the most beautiful building in Pennsylvania by Business Insider recently. Moreover, I initially wanted a smaller school and was intimidated by the size of Pitt; however, this was rapidly shut down because the school truly can be as large or as small as you want it to be. Ultimately, there is so much more that I could say about why Pitt is the greatest school in America, in my opinion, that has been ranked not as highly as it deserves, but I will leave it at this to given all the idea of why Pitt should be at the top of your list of schools.
