UNC, The Place To Be

By CF, UNC alum and parent, From North Carolina

I am an alumni of UNC. My oldest daughter is a senior there. She loves UNC as much as I did. My goal was for her to be happy while getting a quality education. UNC is a perfect fit for her.

Southern Part of Heaven

By Max H., Class of 2022, From Chicago, Il.

As an educational institution, Chapel Hill's commitment to providing its students a world class education, a safe college experience and an array of clubs and programs to dive into displays the outgoing and supportive nature of the community as a whole. While the dorms are beginning to feel outdated, the majority of lecture halls and study centers are extraordinarily modern, and both the lecturers and guest speakers are second to none. Unlike many schools of its caliber, UNC creates a supportive environment, rather than a competitive one, which inspires its legendary camaraderie and alumni support. With beautiful weather, an elite education, and endless outlets for its students, Chapel Hill's reputation as the "Southern Part of Heaven" is well deserved.

Over-hyped, under-performing

By Charles (class of 1991), From Winston Salem, NC

Our daughter currently attends UNC and I am an alumnus ('91). From the first tour, UNC sings it's own praises a bit too loudly. The reality underperforms. She has had immense difficulty getting into classes-even those needed for her major. There is poor guidance from counselors and little interest from the school in each student's success. From a parent's perspective, there is no meaningful communication from the school and no clear way to plug in or get information. I would recommend some other UNC system schools ahead of UNC for prospective undergraduates.

Superior research and critical thinking

By SOG-MM, From Charlotte, NC

As an alumnus of the Graduate School (School of Government) I can affirm that the Chapel Hill ethos of research, critical thinking, and real-life application, is a powerful mindset that I use daily as a professor and a president of a nonprofit corporation.

Affordable High-Quality Education

By Tyler, Class of 2020, From Chapel Hill, North Carolina

My experience so far has been spectacular. I am currently attending undergraduate nursing school and absolutely love it. I have phenomenal professors who truly care about their students and are excellent at teaching. UNC provides a BEAUTIFUL campus with a diverse groups of students that are extremely driven to excell acidemically, while also enjoying the college experience. UNC is known for its athletics, so if you like sports and school spirit this college has it. If you like shopping, food/drinks, and nightlife then you'll become very familiar with Franklin Street. Chapel Hill is the epitome of a community-centered college town. Aside from everything mentioned above, the two major reasons a prospective student should attend UNC are the relatively low cost and prestigious academics. To me, it is a major deal when an affordable public university can compete academically with expensive top-named private universities. UNC is one of the few that can do this.
