Alumna here, Class of 2012. Obtained MSW via VAC and could not be more pleased with program and value of what I received at USC. Excellent professors and challenging curriculum with fellow students that excelled and helped me bring out my best. Program structure felt personalized and despite the opinions of many at the time, I don't feel personally that I was not given a "full experience" because of the manner of the VAC. I have made lifelong friendships with people around the world and I have USC and its program to credit for that. Unfortunately, the reputation of the university in general is a frequent target for a good deal of negative hyperbole that distorts the positive experiences others have had at USC. I am glad that work is being done to change some of the opportunities to validate those negative experiences; there is room for growth still, to be sure. However, for my part, I was glad that I chose USC over other opportunities, and will speak of my time as a worthwhile endeavor that has enhanced me as a professional and as a person. Fight on!

Best undergraduate college experience and top tier academics

Location is perfect for an undergraduate student. School spirit is some of the strongest among college campuses. Trojan family spirit really helps mitigate any cut throat environments. Study abroad programs are diverse and with notable universities. This school is always trying to innovate, whether that be hiring the best professors and leaders, building the best facilities, or admitting the smartest students. They really try to spend money for the students.

I couldn't speak more highly of the prestigious university I attended for four years. USC has it all! The academics, athletics, campus life, social life and overall student well-being is top notch. I wouldn't trade my experience at USC for any other public or private institution. Every school has its pros and cons, but USC sure has a lot of incredible aspects. I was able to get my degree in 3 and a half years and obtain the job of my dreams! The professors and campus staff are student oriented and really help each individual succeed. FIGHT ON FOREVER!

It's a place where academic rigor meets great fun

Imagine this: your professor is renowned expert in his/her field and has just assigned a ridiculously difficult project. The deadline is coming up fast and you're stressed out. USC football is playing a big rival at home this weekend with over the top tailgating activites and you don't want to miss it for the world. So, you go to the game anyway and have a blast with friends. But you're a smart Trojan so you would wake up super early on Sunday and have a few shots of espresso to maintain focus. You hunker down and grind all day to finish the project well because you know how to deal with high stress with efficiency but never forget to have fun...that's a typical life of most USC students. We develop extremely high tolerance for academic rigor but know how to have fun better than most.

One of the best decisions of my life

I'm a senior aerospace engineer. USC is where I discovered my passion for engineering and technology. I came from a humble working-class background but I have never felt out-of-place here. Majority of my classmates are friendly and kind. I have an opportunity to go to office hours and chat with one of the world renowned scientists in aerospace industry or consult with a scientist from NASA. I never had any internship experience. But the experience I gained from working as student worker at one of the university labs landed me a fulltime job offer from Boeing. I'm forever grateful for the opportunity at USC. Going to USC is undoubtedly one of the best decisions of my life.

Great for those who want a well-rounded education.

Great professor to student ratio. Excellent professors that are not just about research to raise the University's profile but also about taking time to ensure students have a grasp of the material in class. The career councillors, the faculty advisers and administrators were second to none. I had the opportunity to also attend classes in its neighbour university (which shall remain nameless) and these ancillary services at USC are far better. Students attending USC will make friends from all over the world and that will greatly broaden a student's horizons. The campus is beautiful with fountains and flowers that abound. The walk to the Coliseum on its own is a memorable event let alone the camaraderie shared by students attending the football games. If you want to be a well-rounded person hat can really contribute to the world in his future career, this is the university to be at. I loved every minute of it!

Good for some things

If you want to go into the film industry, business, computer science, aerospace engineering, or communications, then the academics will be stellar. Otherwise, they will probably be subpar. A weird concentration of Chinese international students that makes the school's asian population one of the highest around. A good amount of Greek life fanatics, but not overwhelming- Greek life is fading into the background as highly motivated students continue to make a growing percentage of USC's student body. Food is good, partying is unmatched, professors are good in the aforementioned areas, and research is pretty easy to get since it's a private school.

USC has a beautiful campus and warm weather with palm trees year-round. USC's fantastic Engineering program (rank #10) put the first man on the moon - Neil Armstrong graduated with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. USC also comes from a legacy of Olympic Athletes, earning more Olympic medals than has any other school. Strong academic programs, an Olympic heritage, gorgeous weather, and supportive faculty who get to know you as a person...USC is a dream school. Earning my Engineering degree here has been incredible.

WHY USC IS DIFFERENT

There are a few simple reasons as to why The University of Southern California should be looked at for more than its ranking. First of which, it is an environment in which students are pushed for more of an education outside of their area of study, the program creates individuals that are diverse in their knowledge and able to think in more than one perspective. The second reason is the Trojan Family. The connectedness between the graduate, undergraduate and alumni is absolutely remarkable and will continue to only be better as more students are attending at record numbers while their qualifications are only more impressive. The third reason is the college experience and the atmosphere of the University. USC is more than just a Cinematic Arts School, a research institution, or a center for innovation. The school is well balanced like its students. USC excels in all aspects from sports to community involvement to international relations and of course academics. Being centrally located in one of the largest cities in the world creates numerous opportunities for graduates to find jobs and network with individuals that you typically wouldn't have the opportunity to come into contact with elsewhere. USC is unlike any other University of its kind and should not be thought of as a number in a ranking but rather an amazing opportunity and environment that I as a student try to remember everyday.
