Best decision I have ever made

Castleton and the faculty (particularly in the Natural Sciences Department) helped make me a much better person and to strive for more than I would have reached for anywhere else. Their dedication to students has been unparalleled at the other institution that I have attended since (an R1 institution). I was consistently challenged to think deeper and more about the ramifications of conclusions that I came to, I was forced to become a much better thinker than I was when coming in. The one star review of this university on this site is reflective of one department and one faculty, not the university as a whole and is not a good representation of a normal student's experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Castleton, I made some of the best friends that I have ever had, and learned how to be a better citizen thanks to the faculty's dedication to students.

Great Experience at Castleton!

Castleton is truly "the small university with a big heart". During my time at Castleton, I had the opportunity to be part of the Spartan family in many ways. I graduated in the Spring of 2017 with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. The science department, like other departments, was a close-knit group. The small classroom sizes allowed each student to get the individual attention they needed to succeed. At Castleton, you're not just a number, you're a person. Professors know your name, have conversations with you, and even go to sporting events to show their support. Castleton offers numerous majors, athletics, and clubs, making it appealing to those who want to do it all.The campus is beautiful, reflecting a true Vermont experience and was well-kept throughout my entire career there. One of the most important aspects of Castleton is that it's safe. I never felt uncomfortable walking to my dorm or to the parking lot. Overall I had a great experience here and would highly recommend touring the campus when looking for schools to experience the beauty and welcoming feeling in person, that's how I determined Castleton was right for me!

Castleton University provided me with the opportunity to grow as a student and a professional. With small class sizes I was able to interact with my classmates and professors, which allowed me to be successful in my classes. Being at a small university also gave me the opportunity to get to know my advisor really well. If I ever had concerns about what classes I needed either for graduation or for grad school in the future I could always stop by my advisor's office. Castleton University not only helped me achieve my academic goals during my time there, but it also set me on the right path for my future studies and career path. I highly recommend this small univeristy with a big heart!

Great University

My experience at Castleton was quite wonderful. I was a student in the Natural Science Department and it had a wonderful environment. The Professors were fair; they were there to teach you, but are willing to help if you are struggling. One Professor actually helped me for 2-3 hours a week in her office giving me examples to practice. No one is cruel or discriminating. Since I attended Castleton, I was able to obtain 3 undergraduate internships which led to being accepted into graduate school. Since the University is a liberal arts one, taking courses outside of your specific field is required. It allows a more well-rounded course schedule. I found it to be fun, as it let you take courses you normally wouldn't expect, meet new students, and learn from different Professors. Overall, I think the education at Castleton was very beneficial and helpful, and you can have many opportunities if you are proactive about it. You can also join clubs and intermurals to do activities outside of classes. One or two cons: if you do not have a car and need to get to Rutland, it is almost impossible to do as you would need to walk on a highway. Secondly, the food is not the best. However, there is a tiny grocery store and a few restaurants right next to the University that can help.

A fantastic affordable university

The faculty are amazing at Castleton. The Science department in particular has so many dedicated professors. There are many opportunities for growth beyond classes too.

Small college, big heart

Castleton was a home away from home for me. A small college in a rural setting, the professors ensured opportunities and experiences not always privy to students in larger schools. The class schedules allowed me to easily complete a major and a minor in three years with transfer credits from my previous institution. The professors were sure to recognize and celebrate each of our successes, while pushing us to reach higher and attain even more. I feel prepared for my pursuits as a graduate student, and am so grateful for this small school with a big heart.
