A Stellar Academic Experience

Starting my first day, I learned a ton from some of the best minds in the country. And despite the school's academic renown, I found the professors easy to approach and very happy to help the university's students - students who were, by and large, incredibly ambitious. I cheerfully work in science and computing now, so I can't say I received anything but good from Wes.

Great reputation, average quality of life.

I'm a current senior at Wesleyan University. The school has a strong reputation in the New England area and amongst academics. However, housing and food are average at best. My experience with housing, be it Junior Village or living in a senior house on Fountain Ave, is that things are outdated, and when something breaks, there is a disorganized and slow process to fix things.

Worth the Tuition

The type of student that Wesleyan attracts largely dictates the campus environment. Small liberal arts schools tend to be pretty homogebeous in student body makeup; yet, Wesleyan was fairly diverse. This is where Wesleyan gains an edge on competitors. The eclectic variety of students colors the way that the campus feels; from shared learning spaces to the thriving social scene. During my time at Wes I participated in a varsity sport, I started a social group, I joined a frat, and discovered my passion for entrepreneurship at the Petracelli Center. Most importantly, I earned a degree in Neuroscience and Behavior that has helped me position myself to be accepted to a top medical school. All-in-all, my experiences and all of the value that Wesleyan has given to me was more than worth the cost of tuition.

Academics and the Arts

When considering small Liberal Arts schools in the Northeast, Wesleyan is virtually unique in that it has a robust music and arts program. While not Oberlin or USC, its music program is excellent, tending towards world music and the experimental. The Theater and Film programs are also great, as are the facilities. I am not as familiar with visual arts, but one reason Wesleyan is different from Amherst or Bowdoin is that the Arts program is much better and that draws in people who are interested in the Arts, making for a student body that is more diverse in its aspirations. Also, finally all the frats are co-ed. Wish they had been when I was there.
