Hollins made me grow

I was a little hesitant when I first started at Hollins just because it was not my first choice. But after my first year, I couldn't imagine going to any other school. Hollins has taught me so much about myself and who I am as a person. Hollins has challenged me and my ways of thinking, and it has taught me to be independent. I truly believe that I wouldn't be the person I am without Hollins.

Wonderful place to grow

Not only is Hollins in an incredibly gorgeous area, but it is full of interesting and exciting people. During my time here, I have learned so much about what a healthy community is supposed to be like, and I feel that the Hollins experience has encouraged my success in the professional world. I found my community here

I've never felt more at home! I never thought I'd be going to a small liberal arts school, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I've learned so much about myself in the time that I've been at Hollins and I feel that I've grown academically, socially, and personally.

Making Me a Stronger Person

Being at Hollins has certainly made me stronger and more confident. Before coming to Hollins I was unlikely to speak up in a classroom setting and take initiative. After even just a year at Hollins I've had several high school friends comment on how confident I've become. The Batten Institute is definitely a part of this, but I would also say that the social life on campus contributed. To be in a place where I am able to speak freely has allowed me to form my opinions and express them effectively. I can't wait to see how I'll continue to grow here through the next 3 years.

Great place for personal growth

Hollins helped me grow more confident as an individual and the last 3 years have been the best. It's a small and tight-knit community, so the professors are able to help you immensely. They know your academic work and your character, and do everything they can to help you grow as a student and as a person. As an example, o recently reached out to a professor who I have never met or spoken to, to help me with my grad school applications as she is in the English department and I thought she would be an excellent reader for my essays. She has been thrilled to personally help me out and read my writing. Not once did she suggest seeking help at the writing center or my own advisor or anything. She readily agreed to help rather than asking me to look for alternatives first. And I know that all professors at Hollins echo this sentiment and will always help you succeed to the best of your ability. You will have a lot of support throughout your time as a student. It's no wonder that all alumnae I know went off to very renowned graduate schools and jobs.

Run While You Can

Students are very insistent on campus inclusivity and diversity for anything that is not society's version of normal. I think this is great. The campus is a haven for minorities (if you are a part of the LGBTQ+ community specifically this is the place for you), however, in being such an inclusive environment for what is not widely accepted by a majority of society, Hollins fails to make students who "fit the mold" feel accepted as well. If you are straight, white, or a Christian this is more than likely not the place for you. I wish someone would have told me before I wasted a year of my college experience in this place.

Hollins made me a better person

Every professor respected, challenged, and inspired me. They were incredibly knowledgeable, understanding, supportive, and academically demanding. It was as if they pulled back the veil and showed me how the world really operates, but more than that Hollins forced me to examine how I really operate and how I operate in the world. Hollins gave me the tools I needed to navigate life, not just professions or higher degrees, but life. I am more empathetic, socially-conscious, and politically informed. I am a better parent because of Hollins. It transformed who I am for the better in so many ways. I don't regret a single penny I spent on Hollins. It set my mind on fire. It pushed me to the edge, then gave me wings to fly the rest of the way.
