Great Engineering Undergraduate Degree
By Sam, class of 2005, From Utah
I am an alumni with two bachelors degrees from UW-P. I loved the academic atmosphere. The advantages are: easy access to the professors, all of my engineering courses were taught by people with a PhD, and very cost effective. Also, I felt that the education philosophy helped me when I had to take my PE exam (which I passed the first time). I have been out in industry for 15 years now, and my Platteville degree has held up well. There is a bit of an "od' boys club" for the school in the northern mid-west. Not much of one once outside WI, MN, IA, and IL. I would not recommend Platteville if you want a big city experience, a Division I school sports team(s) to root for, or want to do graduate level research while an undergrad.

Effective

Small university atmosphere, if you want the crime and hustle of the big city look elsewhere. I graduated in Civil Engineering over 15 years ago. Many of my instructors were PHD's class sizes were small and I could speak with my professors during their office hours. A friend and I both attended larger city universities and both returned and graduated from Platteville with engineering degrees. My brother graduated in highly rated Agronomy program. We both have solid accomplishments in part due to our fundamental college instruction and the hard work ethics enforced at Platteville. College is in a scenic small town, away from large cities. Students were generally friendly.
