CUNY--New York City College of Technology User Reviews and Ratings
Try to Get Into Another CUNY College
By Class of 2020...Potentially, From Brooklyn, NY
My experience as a student at City Tech has been barely okay. I feel the college has let me down wholeheartedly. I came to City Tech hoping it would be a great experience, even if it is a CUNY college. I feel just because CUNY is public, that factor does not give it the right to lack customer service and fulfilling the needs of its students. There's constantly a lack of communication between administrative staff (i.e. financial aid staff)and students that can impact the student experience in a negative manner. Students feel lost, like they can't turn to anyone to help solve issues they may not always have control over. The administrative processes are often long, dragged out battles for the students. If you call an office, nobody picks up the phones. As CUNY's technology-centered university, I feel City Tech does not live up to this standard, as the college's technologies are often out of date. Compared to other CUNY colleges our campus looks terrible. The college does help students studying computer information systems gain some opportunities, but other majors don't get nearly as much attention. Students don't feel engaged with the college because there is always nonsense going on that the college ends up not fulfilling its duties. Student and club culture suffer as a result. As a student, I feel betrayed. I feel like I have wasted too much time to turn around and select a different college no matter how much I'd like to. I had spent most of my time trying to utilize what the college offers as much as I can, but by the time I figured out it could not deliver the way one would expect, it was already too late. The fact is the college does not have much to offer. Some professors I've run into have been the highlight of my experience, but everything else sucks. City Tech needs to step up. The administration and parties in control need to reevaluate their roles or try to find staff that actually care and are invested in students' lives.
