Sets You For Life

By IE83, From SC

Graduated many years ago but Tech has provided a pathway for a long and successful career. A Tech degree is universally recognized and respected. Esp in IE - #1 25 years in a row!! Can't go wrong if you get out!!!

Difficult but Ensures Success

By CE, 2016, From Atlanta, GA

On the positive side, I was well prepared to enter the working world and had minimal difficulty finding a co-op and job (and all of my friends that searched for a job had one by the time we graduated). You can join many great organizations and make a difference. On the negative side, you bond with people over how badly you failed that test or how stressed you are or how many times you've cried that week. Tech will wreck your mental health, and their mental health services are ill-equipped to help you. My sense of humor is decidedly more macabre since graduating. TLDR: you'll be successful but you'll suffer for it. Make sure your goals align before you apply.

Transfer Opportunity

By JBS1984, From Georgia

As one of the top schools in the country, the admission requirements for Freshman are really tough. Ga Tech offers a pathway program. Also called a conditional deferral. My child was told to attend another accredited university for one year, take certain classes to transfer to his major. Take 30 transferable credits overall, and obtain a specified minimum GPA. He was successful, and was admitted fall of his sophomore year as a transfer student. Many people do not know that this exists. If you want to attend Tech, and feel you're grades are marginal for acceptance, give it a shot. You may be given the pathway option.

Awful environment

By Debs, From Valdosta, GA

Georgia Tech is a horrible school. The environment is so stressful and everyone is so negative that it's hard to be happy or enjoy yourself. I thought classes were easy last semester but I ultimately transferred because the campus vibe was so awful. The dining halls are nasty and have few options if you have dietary restrictions, and the dorms are tiny and riddled with cockroaches. I found the student body to be rather unfriendly and snobby while I was at Tech. I transferred after one semester because my experience was so horrible.

Tough but worth it

By Tex, From Baton Rouge, La

Tech sucks but the payoff for the work is more than worth it. Amongst my friends, I've had 2 make Time Magazine's annual 30 under 30, 1 40 under 40, many have careers in companies such as SpaceX, Boeing, Johnson&Johnson, Westinghouse, ExxonMobil, RaceTrac, Pixar, and Home Depot....just to name a few. Then there's the entrepreneurs who own their own businesses or went in on startups, from programming companies, to defense contractors, to manufacturing human waste solutions for developing countries. Georgia Tech grads are amazing, not because of what the school taught us in the classrooms, but what we had to learn to teach ourselves. We're engineers and scientists first, but the business school has come a long ways in recent years too. TLDR; Go here if you can suffer in the short term (a lot of work and misery) for benefits in the long term (the real world is a lot easier than Tech and you'll be well prepared).

Can't get any better!

By BD2020, From GA

WIth the kind of support GT provides for its students in terms of research, startups, clubs and cultural activities, I really think you can't get any better! You should be proud of yourself if you are able to get into GT and come here for Engineering/CS. With the continued improvements we are seeing throughout the departments (CODA building, Scheller college of business etc), I think we'll see a sharp increase in the rankings too as most recently has been shown by the QS world rankings ranking us as the top public engineering school in the nation.

Great school for STEM and beyond!

By TK2018, From GA

GT has made a concerted effort to improve its culture and perception. After my 4.5 years here I've learned a lot, gotten a ton of experience and was well-equipped to enter the engineering world. If you can make it through Tech, you can make it through anything, and companies from all over the world see value in recruiting from here.

World leader in technology

By Jl2019, From Atlanta

GT really focus on getting students ready for the industry of next generation. Tons of intern and co-op opportunities as well as in-school industry sponsored projects. The academic standards are high. You'll have to work very hard to graduate but all the efforts are well worthy. My daughter is a senior of ISYE major and already got couple of job offers from top companies or consulting firms with really suprisingly good starting pay. Great school if you're really looking for some serious learning than partying.
