Wake Forest University User Reviews and Ratings
A Cut Above
By Class of 2021, From St. Louis, Mo
I recognize that I might be a bit bias but when comparing schools over the summer break, Wake Forest leads by example. It's a hard university to get into; professors are great; weather is to die for; the activities and sports scene is in a league of its own and the school spirit is as thick as molasses.

Grad school
By Pamela, graduate class of 2019., From New York
I'm in my last six months of grad school at Wake. The academics are excellent and thorough, though the flip side is you will be buried in homework. I've found all of the professors knowledgable, experienced, and interesting, and they always make themselves available to students who have questions. I think the rigorous classes have prepared me well for my career. My one complaint is that there is a lot of lip service to diversity, but the choice of textbooks (and classes) doesn't always reflect that. Some of the textbooks use outdated language regarding sexuality and race, which I found frustrating as somebody who lives in NYC. The student body isn't very diverse, which can create a lack of variety of opinions. I can see the school has put an effort into hiring minorities, but I have had only a handful of black professors and no other professors of color (and no LGBT+). This might be fine in a subject like business, but I'm in the counseling department, and I really think the academic perspective suffers because of it. We have to counsel different-types of people with a multitude of issues, and it makes sense to arm students with real-world knowledge regarding those topics, especially as many students do not live in homogenous areas. Other than that, I think Wake provides an excellent education and learning environment.

Good School, but a Bad Fit for Me
By mbe, From Northeast
Wake is a good school, but it was a bad fit for me. I was an intellectual, middle-class kid with an independent streak. I didn't thrive at Wake at all (academically or socially). After Wake, I went to law school at Washington University in St. Louis and had a totally different experience - I made tons of friends and did really well. Most of my friends at Wake were also misfits, and had a similar experience - only coming into their own after graduating. None of which is to say that Wake is a bad school. Most people love it. But if the thought of joining a fraternity or sorority (or being surrounded by people who have) isn't appealing, then it's probably not the best choice.

Wonderful experience and opportunities
By CO2k18, From MN
I transferred to WFU after spending a year at a similarly sized private school in CA. I instantly fell in love with the campus. Even as a transfer I felt like the professors, staff, and career services cared about me and I had leadership opportunities. Wake has wonderful academics, study abroad programs, and extracurriculars. The alumni network is strong and has a lot of pride. The size is small and intimate but the resources and sports are like that of a larger university.

Go to Wake
By Brandon, Class of 2022, From Winston-Salem
Love every minute of my time at Wake. Small campus feel with big school resources. Undergraduates feel empowered to take part in research right out of the gate. Professors are amazing and accessible. The dorms are either really great or absolutely horrible (average anywhere else) as a freshman, but it only gets better from there. Lots of great food options at the Pit (cafeteria). People love to talk trash but that's just because we don't have anything else to complain about. Really tight campus community. Wake really has an energetic environment and you feel like you are at a University that is growing, improving, and diversifying everyday.
