While the university has great resources , they are not necessarily available to students. Since it is a research university, many professors do not have a primary focus on teaching. Each department varies greatly. Some departments are small and a student can grow tremendously throughout their years there, while others have students and professors taking the easy way out--defeating the purpose of the institution.

Tremendous breadth and flexibility to customise education

Getting the course catalogue is the first introduction to just how much there is to learn at Cornell. The flexibility of the graduation requirements means that one can pick and mix the courses that most appeal to the curiosity of the student whilst maintaining the rigour one would expect. I had a brilliant education there and can say from experience that gave me a better foundation for later studies at the University of Cambridge.

I attended 30 years ago and I have a child there now. I had such an amazing education and social life there. The campus is gorgeous and the food is fantastic! Classes are academically very challenging, but if you are qualified enough to get in, then you probably enjoy the stimulation of a highly intelligent group of professors and peers. The downtown area has been built up quite a bit with tons of restaurants and there are many outdoor parks and waterfalls to visit. There are so many clubs available so everyone can find a sense of belonging.
