University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee User Reviews and Ratings
Great School for Non-Traditional Students
By Josh H., From Chicago, IL
I agree with a lot of what Panther16 said, and would like to emphasize the diversity found on campus. It's hard to overstate how lucky Wisconsin is to have a place with so many people coming from various backgrounds. I also think the campus is very nice despite its density and small surface area. The Downer Woods provide a nice getaway. I also think the ties to businesses in the area, of which there are numerous within the F500, are understated. If you want to live and work in the Milwaukee metro area following graduation, UWM provides a much better value than Marquette (and MSOE, depending on what you study, though MSOE definitely takes the cake on any Engineering discipline)

R1-Classified Research Institution Continually Improving
By Panther 2016, From WI
UWM gets a bad rep due to its lower admission standards compared to peer institutions and low graduation rate. I believe the former to be a strength of the school in some way, as it shows that UWM is willing to give disadvantaged students a chance at higher education-- the fact that many later decide that post-secondary studies are not for them does not in any way represent the quality of education one can receive here. It does, however, provide an incredibly diverse student body that is undoubtedly beneficial for any student to be exposed to. There is a large international student population and student organizations are abundant for any type of activity you could possibly want to explore. Every department on campus is involved in cutting-edge research and employs faculty with degrees from Ivy-League and other high-caliber institutions. UWM's recent classification, and subsequent renewal, as a Carnegie R-1 Research Institution (highest ranking of research universities) proves that exciting developments are occurring regularly in UWM's colleges. People that go on to grad school from here consistently get into top-tier schools. Though UW-Milwaukee isn't on the same level as Madison, I believe it should be considered the best public school in the state following the flagship in our capital. UWM has grown over the decades from a sleepy commuter college to a respectable research institution, and the public opinion on it should be changing as well.

Get costs in writing
By FiremanZF, From Fox Valley, IL
My daughter attended one year, then transferred to a more local college. When we were signing her up, they kept telling us "It will cost about...", and "You can look it up after she registers online". We paid almost $12,000 up front, and now she has additional loan debt of $15,000, after she supposedly got grants and scholarships for $5,000. How much should a second tier university cost? I could have sent her to MSoE for less. Like I said, demand a full accounting before sending your child here.
