Good school, good community and poor post grad support

I will always be proud of my degree from WMU. I earned the degree and paid for the school's services. The school at the time (1998) offered little in the way of support for job placement post graduation. At the very least I did not benefit from it. I am sure that now it is much easier for students to access support with the increased use of the internet, but I do not contribute to the school in terms of donations. I paid for my education (service provided). I know that the campus housing has been upgraded as well which is a huge plus. I loved the diversity of the students and I will cherish my time spent at WMU even though as previously mentioned the university offered little post graduate support. Hopefully that has changed too. The campus is beautiful and Kalamazoo will always be a special place to me.

Wonderful academics

I graduated with my BA in 1995. My academic program prepared me well for teaching students with disabilities. Not necessarily preparing me in the traditional sense but heightening my awareness of tapping into being a creative teacher for the sake of helping my students develop skills. Because I deeply care about WMU I cautiously recommend attending this university for the following reason: Over the years I have donated money, participated in functions and encouraged my youngest daughter to matriculate from WMU. In 2019 I visited the campus for some r & r and was treated quite rudely by campus (or city) police and some of the students. Needless to say, my donations are done, my visits to the campus have ceased, and my child is attending grad. school elsewhere. WMU never, ever allow your alumni to be shoddily mistreated. If I carried myself in a disparaging manner that is a different matter. But I always conduct myself in a respectful, friendly manner to all persons in most situations. I should not have experienced such distasteful treatment.

Aerospace Engineering

The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at WMU offers a competitive, challenging, but rewarding program in many engineering disciplines and is the reason why the WMU engineering industry is advancing so quickly in the nation. As a graduated Aerospace Engineering student, the experience I have gained from such a knowledgeable faculty is one factor as to why I achieved my undergraduate degree here. The dedicated culture throughout the engineering campus provides substantial support for young engineers and promotes academic and professional excellence in a engineering principles. The addition of such a artistic and cultured city of Kalamazoo also supplies a great social/study balance for many student to continue new/current hobbies and to try new things!
