Oregon Health and Science University's highly ranked medical school is especially renowned for training in primary care, rural medicine and family medicine. Medical students begin clerkships in their third year and must work in a rural setting before graduation. In their fourth year, M.D. students complete rotations of four-week clerkships. Students can learn in the Oregon Health and Science University Hospital and the nearby Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

OHSU operates dozens of centers and institutes on campus, including the OHSU Knight Cardiovascular Institute and the Oregon Stroke Center. Students typically live in the surrounding areas of Portland.

Outside of class, students have access to the March Wellness and Fitness Center and can check out student organizations like the Dermatology Interest Group and Christian Medical and Dental Association. About 80 percent of medical students are from Oregon.
