Adelphi is a private university originally founded as a boys' preparatory school in 1863. It became coeducational in 1896 and now offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, post-doctoral study, and adult education programs through its main Garden City campus and at satellite campuses in Manhattan, Hauppauge, and Hudson Valley. Adelphi strives to foster in its students a passion for knowledge and lifelong learning, a questioning of cultural values, and a desire to contribute their knowledge and service to the community at large. Adelphi's 75-acre main campus is located in western Long Island, 20 miles from New York City.
