Want to Learn to Learn? Attend Reed!
By Sharon T, class of 1958, From Irvine, California
I not only graduated from Reed, but returned there first as a "faculty wife" but then became a staff member. I now return each year for the Reunion, which is unlike any other college reunion I know of. My sister attended Reed for two years,, my brother-in-law is also a graduate of Reed, so I have more than one viewpoint. My Reed education was of such value that I have been able to follow just about any profession where my life led me. From visiting Reed each year, talking with current students and following information about the college, I do not believe that has changed. It is probably the most intellectual college in the United States, and still sends a huge percentage of its graduates on to graduate schools and careers requiring advanced education. Besides that, it has a beautiful campus, wonderful facilities, and many activities students can enjoy besides the intensive academics. If you are someone who thinks college is solely for social life or to attend football games, then I agree -- Reed would be the worst place you could attend. But if you love to learn and want to really explore the life of the mind, there is no better place to do it.
