It's common, but not crucial. A lot of students live on campus, especially in lower years. There are all the usual facilities on campus. There are things like a grocery store and a few restaurants within a short walk, and there is a lot to do within a short Uber ride. Buses aren't great in this part of town unless one happens to be going right by your destination. If you don't have a car and buying one would be tough on your budget, I would try it out without one. I expect that you won't have a problem
