Small Undergraduate Liberal Arts College Focused on Service
By Andrew W. Class of 2004, From Worcester, MA
As a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, I have been shaped by the mission of the college: Men and Women for Others. We become leaders in industry and in our communities. Over 90% of the students each year do some sort of service, whether that be tutoring in the urban school district or giving up their Spring Break to serve those less fortunate. The school is small enough that your professors know your name and you recognize most faces on campus, but with enough diverse options to allow students to go on to whatever career they choose. Most people were involved with multiple student activities or Division I sports, so leadership opportunities abound. The best way to describe how it felt on campus was home, with a shared sense of community and adults and other students who pushed us to be better versions of ourselves. Spirituality was another focus on campus, but it was not necessarily religious-based. Reflection on ourselves and our place in the world was interspersed with the typical college parties and heavy academic load. I would recommend Holy Cross to anyone looking for that smaller school feel who wants to be challenged academically and socially to grow beyond what you think you can do.
