If you intend to study business, go somewhere else.
By Regretful Business Student, From FL
Certain areas of business put a big emphasis on where you go to school. While this isn't fair it is the reality. Despite this, some schools have had a good track record of sending their alumni to school prestigious companies and business fields through working on their business school. NSU is not one of those schools. It's the worst kept secret on campus that a big emphasis is placed on the medical school and medical-related fields and that as a result all the other schools are being held back. The most prominent relationship the school has with a company is DHL Express and that's just because their headquarters is 10 mins from campus. If you're looking to study business, do not enroll at NSU. If you do, please do yourself a favor and transfer to a better school after your Sophmore or even your Freshman year. If you have to stay all four years, keep a high GPA and prepare to do a masters degree at a better school (Vandy, UT Austin) and use that school and network to get to where you want to get to. For the love of God, please do not let NSU talk you into doing an MBA from their school. If you can't transfer, or do a masters/mba from a better school then be prepared to really hustle during your time at nova and try to get as much work experience as possible on your own because NSU will not help you do that. Aside from that, professors are fine, food is drastcially overpriced ($5-$6 for a box of cereal), lot of good food in the area off-campus.

A Research University on the Rise
By Bob of Bragg, From North Carolina
Nova Southeastern University is a Research University on the rise. Within the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, Nova is one of just 131 universities and colleges classified as "R2 - High Research Activity. To classify/brand Nova Southeastern as an "online" university is a misnomer, and does little to highlight the incredible strides this university has made in the last 20 years. It is moving quickly to raise its standing to "R1." And how cool is it to have the most powerful IBM supercomputer (named "Megalodon") available to support the university's research efforts within the state of Florida? This university is seriously undervalued, and underrated, in both reputation and value to the serious student and researcher.

The Contradiction of Nova Southeastern University
By PhD Class of 2013, From North Carolina
I have read many student reviews on Nova Southeastern University, quite a few positive, and about as many negative as well. But one theme that keeps resounding is Nova being labeled as a distance learning school. This is somewhat misleading and possibly inaccurate. Nova Southeastern University, in my assessment as one of their alumni, is a traditional brick and mortar university that built its reputation on distance learning. They were pioneers in distance learning long before it was acceptable and commonplace today. Nova Southeastern University really needs to resolve this issue and make a declarative statement as to what kind of institution they really are...whether a traditional university or an online university. Again, I disagree with the latter, and if Nova feels the same way, they should market and promote themselves as a traditional university and distance themselves from the for-profit online universities that they are often compared with. I think it would be better to be a traditional university that offers some online degrees, than to be classified as a purely "online" university. The online stigma is particularly harmful and counterproductive to all doctoral graduates of the university, even as popular as online education is today.

A Really Underrated University
By Katz, Class of 2019, From Jacksonville, FL
As a current student in NSU, I do believe that Nova Southeastern University is somewhat underrated. The medical college of NSU is one of the best in Florida and perhaps in the United States. In addition, for anyone who intends to major in Political Science, Social Science, Paralegal Studies, History or a similar field, NSU is a good choice. Furthermore, the university's community has been very welcoming and diverse, you are able to make new friends with different cultural background very quickly.

Excellent Academics and beautiful Campus
By Alex G. Class of 2013, From Murray, KY.
My four years at Nova Southeastern University were a wonderful experience. I truly enjoyed most classes and felt that most professors were nice and caring. Course material was quite interesting and challenging too. There are many groups, activities and events truly something for everyone even if you are not into Greek life. By the way, I believe that the NSU campus is the most beautiful campus in Florida. Overall NSU is top-notch!

A good (but not great) university
By Fox, From Orlando, Fl
I started my learning journey as an online student for a master degree in NSU and I did my investigation before entering this program. There are many online programs offered by top universities and I did compare them. Frankly, I did not know if I made a right choice at that time as I got other offers, but with hindsight, I made a good decision. Earning a degree is not easy in my program and professors often give you lots of assignments. They graded my papers strictly and that is good. I like challenging professors who can push me more harshly, so my potentials can be further surfaced. Actually, I did not even really realize that I was in an online program at that time, as I was 100 percent involved in the learning structure. Taking online course, participating online discussion forum, submitting my papers almost every week, all of these stuff made me a crazy schedule. I believe at the end of the day, you get what you paid. My program also requires students to come to the campus twice a year, so I was able to meet all my classmates and professors face to face. The campus is truly beautiful. I am a little bit jealous of those residential students who can enjoy the peaceful learning environment. However, if you compare NSU to other top ranked private universities, it is obvious that there are lots of aspects that NSU needs to improve. For example, NSU does not have a language program which can help international students improve their English, but there are many language programs in this nature in other universities. For another example, Graduate Assistant, as a job position at NSU, does not come with tuition wavier. This is really weird. If they want their graduates more academically productive, they have to be more generous to their students.

A Student-centered University
By Roger, From Boston
I really love my university because of many opportunities that I am offered. Almost every week, I am able to receive emails informing me where people will hold conference and/or which academic journals are calling for papers, so I am well informed. The curriculum is amazing and the learning structure designed is very helpful. All in all, there are various ways to get involved academically and I have grown a leader with these factors.

Great Learning Experiences
By Molu, From Shenzhen, China
I got my M.S. in conflict resolution at NSU. I like to attest that NSU, at least my program, really care about students. There were not many residential students in my program, so normally class size was 10 to 15. As an international student, I was shy at the beginning of my first semester as I could not speak English well. My professors and classmates perceived it and always encouraged me to express my own ideas in class. They are awesome, patient, and nice. To further help improve my English, my professor also encouraged me to go to the writing center. I made significant progress not only in English writing, but I was getting more confident in communications. Moreover, the largest library in Fl is at the NSU campus, so it is super easier to access all resources for your academic work. As an international student, I was not really interested into social activities, but I am sure that student activity office got some events occasionally. The gender ratio is 7 female : 3 male. Maybe because of the gender ratio, the campus was always quiet and peaceful, which I enjoyed much. Hence, I do appreciate high-quality education that NSU provides. I got a happy time in NSU. I would like to proudly recommend NSU to all my friends, relatives, and anyone who loves to spend their time at the beautiful Hollywood beach in Fl.

A beautiful, fast-growing, student-centered university
By Bryce, class of 2012, From Fort Lauderdale
My experiences in NSU have been wonderful. The campus is just beautiful and there are a lot of state-of-the-art equipment in the campus gyms, so you would love this university if you are a sports lover. Classmates are nice, friendly, and studious. Professors are knowledgeable and really want to help you succeed, so the learning environment is great.Small class size makes closer relationships among students and professors and all professors know me pretty well. It is important to me. Based on my personal experiences, how much I can learn from the course depends heavily on how much efforts the instructor puts. At this point, almost all professors whom I know do a decent job. Surrounding areas of NSU is an extra merit. From the campus to the beach, only takes 10 to 15 minutes if you got a car. Do not get me wrong, I am not saying that NSU is a perfect school. In fact, there are many issues that NSU has to work on. For example, many students are suffering from inadequate dorm rooms and have to live off-campus. The university is heavily research-driven, so may not be suitable for "party people". Tuition and fees are increasing yearly, while they do not improve students' scholarship packages and student workers' salaries. Overall, again, NSU is a good university providing world-class education. It will be better if students can financially be supported more.

Good Comp Sci school
By highervista, From Ventura, CA
I went to NSU and received my Ph.D. from the College of Engineering and Computer Science. I've been to several schools / universities in my educational lifetime. NSU has great professors and nice facilities. While it's not in the MIT/Stanford range, it is still a top quality program for Computer Science, IMHO. Enjoy the wonderful professors who always seemed interested in helping me understand the requirements for coursework and the dissertation (not dismissive like other schools I've been to). In general, a good school and decent cost for quality received.
